In Water, we started our growth in the womb. In Water, Life sustained the emergence of its diversity. Ocean tides and the flow of streams show us the power that they hold: cascades and waterfalls are the best way to connect with the force of water.

Then the Earth Element sustained the capacity for life to multiply in many forms. It is the base on which all other elements manifest. It is the holder of lakes, rivers, forests, and mountains where multiple species can find shelter. Cliffs show its belly.

The Air we breathe every second of our life is our life link. It is the great exchanger between all parts of the globe; it brings rain, seeds, and cold or heat for the sake of growth. It sustains the flight of birds and bellies sails to transport us. Let us look at the invisible.

Fire is the greatest agent of transformation. It falls from the sky in the form of lightning, and it happens in our cells to give us energy. After cooking their food, humans could use it in their machinery to create power by transforming minerals and wood into magic. Black magic into bombs, white magic into healing.

After living for 35 years in the high desert of New Mexico, the rocks, stones, pebbles, canyons, cliffs, and mountains have told me some of their stories; I am here to pass them on. They evoke the bone structure of our body…

Plants need water, which is the source of our emotions. They heal us as they nurture our hearts and our feelings for beauty. They teach us also to be strong when we have to stay put and use what is close to us.

The diversity of forms that animals have taken over the course of millions of years is a permanent source of awe. We think we know them because we have domesticated a few species. Their world is so immense and inaccessible: I feel so privileged and grateful to have approached some wild ones.

Humans have been shaped by their unique cultures, which themselves were sculpted by the way the elements manifest in specific environments. Discovering their uniqueness around the world has been my quest. Moreover, I've been searching for the universal in our soul connections.

The sky invites us to perceive the Invisible in its ever changing cloud shapes; I cannot help to question their messages; our ancestors created many stories about the sound that they manifest at times. Do we still know how to listen to the clouds ?

An artist can be called to be the voice of people, of places, or causes as he or she gives attention to the voice that speaks within.
I have learned to listen and respect the Four Elements: Fire, Air, Water and Earth in my 30 years as a shamanic practitioner and teacher. They have asked me to be their voice and to manifest them on paper so people can relate with them in a personal way. Two places in the world have made me fully connected with the power of these four elements: Iceland, where I visited a few times, and New Mexico, where I have been living since 1985.
Yes, they talk in what we see and experience in our daily lives: uncontrollable fires devastating millions of acres, winds called hurricanes and tornadoes, flooding or persistent drought deleting lakes, earth erosion or landslides. The harmony that used to link them to each other has been disturbed, and they let us know they are out of balance. I am their voice.
Through the ideal medium of watercolor on the slick surface of Bristol paper that does not easily absorb pigment, I can witness the elements as they do their watery dance. Then the air dries the moisture and retains the earthy form; In a few minutes, the process of the world's creation is reenacted on paper.
After a few paintings, they were asking me to turn them upside down so I could see another point of view of the process. I realized that most of them could indeed be seen from both perspectives, a sudden awakening on what our reality is about.
